PERSONALITY
Jezeræde is cheerful, quirky, and annoyingly tactile with people, even when he first meets them. He is a little bit spoiled and used to getting what he wants and is not above pouting like all hell when things don't go the way he wants them to. Along with that, he can be quiet selfish about most things; affection, food, information, safety, whatever it is that he can hoard (is he part dragon? No one knows). The only time he isn't like this is if you have managed to worm your way under his defences and become his friend.

The blond also has a horrible habit of singing whatever catchy song is popular at the time, though re-writing the lyrics to suit whatever he might be doing at the time. He will also, despite being able to sing quite well, sing off key on purpose to ensure that all those within hearing range are put out and cannot ignore him.

There is also that habit that he has of giving everyone really terrible nicknames. Like Jellybean. Or Cupcake. Or Little Spoon. These cannot be avoided, and will be used in professional capacities.

Should you engage him in a fight, more often than not he will laugh and run away. Even if he shouldn't be able to, he will find a way to run away. He doesn't see it as cowardice, he sees it as survival. And if you aren't one of the four people on the planet he likes, chances are he will drop you like you're on fire rather than back you up.

However, there is another side of Jezeræde; a stoic, and near emotionless being capable of horrible acts. This is who he was born as, raised as and, despite growing past it, he will revert to being something sharper, dangerous and more reckless when pressed. In contrast to his incredibly outgoing personality, Jezeræde is not a kind person, and he is not someone that you want to piss off in a fight.

HISTORY
Born in one of the many parallel universes connected to ours, Jezeræde was born into one of the Seven Clans of Dis and was the only child of Tam and Rhea. Mage children born to two Mage parents is extremely rare due to the stresses that working with magic puts on the body, so he was a rare occurrence right from conception. He was raised as all Mages are in their world; to be assassins and killers. This was overlooked by the Head Mages of Dis, meaning that he spent most of his formative years in a highly clinical environment rather than in a family setting. Not that the family setting would have been much better considering that both Tam and Rhea were some of the Clan’s most notorious killers.

It was also obvious from birth that Jezeræde possessed a rare magical ability known as Rending (the ability to rip space-time), and so he was Branded at two weeks old with a large tattoo that would grow with him and help purify and control the magic he possessed as well as keep it bound and controlled, keeping both himself and his universe safe from destruction.

Even at the early age of five, Jezeræde was showing excellent promise of becoming one of the best Black Mages, elite killers that were hired out across the different universes for whatever paid best. Where you might usually see uncoordinated, every emotional children, Jezeræde was controlled, quiet, and incredibly observant. His teachers praised him for being the best of both his parents as was considered the pride and joy of his Clan. However, his parents pride at that is ruined on his sixth birthday when an unknown event triggered Jezeræde's magic to break the restrained imposed through the brand, leading him to madness and the massacre of his family and, upon him attempting to hide the evidence, the destruction of his whole universe.

This event is also what triggers the collapse of the Gates that connect all parallel universes, and drains magic from the universe that he eventually lands in, a modern day Earth that has a history of magic. Basically, chaos at its finest.

However, before he ends up here, Jezeræde stumbles into a different universe and literally right into the Court of Verryn. The Court is one of the many Courts that have employed Black Mages throughout their history, so the king recognizes the brand on Jezeræde’s back and, after Jez saves his son, Prince Sharde, from a freak accident involving black holes, ’adopts’ the young Black Mage into the Court.

And by adopted I mean he was basically a slave, just one that was treated really nicely. Basically, the King finishes the training that Jezeræde never got in his home universe, with the added flair of espionage and seduction as per the Court of Verryn assassins and spies. Jezeræde is also ‘bound’ to Sharde, which is a ceremony that most Black Mages go through when they are purchased or hired for a job to ensure that they do not turn on their employer; it binds a great deal of Jezeræde’s essence to Sharde meaning that he would do what ever he could to protect the prince.

So Jezeræde grows up in the Court, next to Sharde, the prince having no idea who or what his best friend is for most of their childhood and young adult life. His relationship with Sharde is complex and equal parts honest and forced, but it wasn’t enough to make him actually care about the rest of the Court, or the universe in general. It isn’t until Jezeræde is just past his eighteenth birthday that he manages to escape the Court. After reading about an arcane ritual (one that he was really never supposed to find out about) Jezeræde performed an incredibly dangerous blood ritual to sever the binding between him and Sharde, which would allow him to leave and seek out another universe where he would have less of a chance of being recognized and Bound (if only because he would know to hide it). The ritual goes horribly wrong and severs the bond that keeps his Rending in check, leading to the destruction of the Court of Verryn and, while he doesn’t make the whole universe collapse, by the end of the ordeal, Sharde is King of Verryn and Jezeræde slips through the holes he left in space time to stroll on into a mostly magic-free universe with more blood on his hands.

The universe that Jezeræde lands in is much like our own, Earth present day with the same technological advances and history, only all those fairy tales and myths were known to be real. Magic was on this Earth until an unexplained phenomena (The Lights, as it is known) happened, leaving almost no wild magic behind and causing the few Mages and other magic users to go mad from the lost. All magic had to be tapped into through elaborate rituals and was considered much like modern day Witchcraft: more about self actualization than magic. Except for Jezeræde.

This is where Jezeræde adopts his personality of being charming and friendly and outgoing, establishing himself through shallow magic tricks to keep himself afloat, he enrolls in the prestigious University of North America, one of four leading universities in the studies of Magic and the Occult. He then spends the next four years earning himself a renouned reputation for being brilliant and inventive and most-certainly-not-a-Mage-no-not-at-all-what-are-you-talking-about-they-are-all-dead-or-insane-rude. He earns himself a scholarship for his PhD in Mage Magicks, and that is when he meets Kale and Rowan, also PhD students.

ABILITIES
Like most Mages, Jezeræde has the ability to create and cast spells of varying complexity. This is done simply by tapping into magic as it exists within the world and shaping it in whatever manner is required for the spell. Unlike most Mages, however, Jezeræde has the ability to use this magic to tears through space-time (Rending).

Most of Jezeræde's power is contained and 'filtered' through the large, shifting tattoo on his back, allowing him more control over magic, as well as sparing him a painful death when the Doorways between universes collapse, draining magic from the universe he was currently residing in (or, more aptly put, hiding in).

Jezeræde is also proficient with daggers and small knives, though is completely at a loss if you give him anything to point and aim; guns, bows, slings, even staffs for offensive spell casting are useless in his hands. His hand-to-hand combat was considered adequate for those born in his Clan on Dis, and was only slightly improved upon during his 'stay' in the Court of Verryn. He would still rather run away.
